Thorny Issues in Residential Foreclosures *Class by Webinar*

Date(s):
February 12, 2019
Description:
Credit: 3.0 Credit Hours

Description: This new and informative course begins with a brief overview of foreclosures in the District, including the early mediation docket in the DC Superior Court. Our experienced and engaging faculty will take a deeper look at some of the thorny issues in foreclosure, including:

• Condo Foreclosures: Due to recent decisions by the Court of Appeals, foreclosures by a condominium association  can have a serious impact on secured mortgage lenders, including possibly voiding security interests.
The faculty will discuss how condo foreclosures affect mortgage liens and homeowners.

• Reverse Mortgages: The faculty will cover special protections for reverse mortgage borrowers and surviving non-borrower spouses, as well as the treatment of heirs of reverse mortgage borrowers.

• Homeowner Defenses: The presenters will also focus on legal defenses to foreclosures and practice tips for helping homeowners avoid foreclosure.

• Overlay with Probate: Finally, the faculty will discuss special issues affecting personal representatives and conservators/guardians and other successors in interest.
