Representing Clients in Congressional Investigations 2019 *Class by Webinar*

Date(s):
September 16, 2019
Description:

Credits: 2.0 Credit Hours

Description: Last year, there was significant litigation regarding congressional subpoenas in both U.S. Senate and House Committees.  With an eye toward last year's litigation and the possibility of additional contentious subpoenas in the new Congress, this class focuses on how Congress conducts its investigations, including the unique scope of its subpoena power and enforcement procedures.  Those who attend will learn the manner in which congressional staffers conduct these investigations, how they interact with subjects, and the subjects’ options in responding to inquiries. Our seasoned and engaging faculty discuss available defenses to congressional inquiries and how Congress deals with assertions of constitutional rights and other privileges.  Find out the inside story on representing high-profile clients and how to deal with the corresponding risks associated with House and Senate investigations – civil actions, criminal actions, and attacks on a client's reputation.
