Description: Learn the law and practice of real estate litigation in the District of Columbia, focusing on current issues dealing with boundary disputes, foreclosure practice, easements, and more. Faculty will guide you through the initial case evaluation of a real estate case, motions practice, and pretrial discovery. Using examples from actual real estate trials, you also will learn trial techniques and strategies to use when trying complex real estate cases. 


Part 1
Learn how to represent your clients effectively and creatively on issues such as competing claims of title, specific performance, adverse possession, rights of first refusal, boundary disputes, easements, restrictive covenants, and foreclosures. Faculty will guide you through the initial case evaluation of a real estate case, motions practice, and pretrial discovery. You also will learn about investigation techniques and sources.

Part 2
Using examples from actual real estate trials, faculty will discuss local procedures governing pretrial conferences and other pretrial procedures, as well as trial techniques and specific strategies for conveying complicated law and facts to a court or jury.  You also will learn how to use demonstrative evidence and other exhibits, make a record for appeal, and use witnesses successfully to deal with complex real estate issues.
