Description: Employees engage in all kinds of off-duty conduct that can cause employers to wonder, “Can we fire that employee for doing that?”  Employers must be mindful of the legality of imposing consequences upon employees for their conduct outside the workplace.  This fast-paced class will address trending issues in this area, including terminations based on the employee’s:
 
  • Social media posts
  • Marijuana use
  • Political activity
  • Outside employment
  • Romantic relationships/socializing with co-workers
  • Tobacco use
  • Support of LGBTQ+ rights, pro-choice or pro-life organizations, gun ownership, and other social causes and issues
  • Alcohol use
  • Arrests (pending disposition).
While this class is a must for all employment and labor attorneys, others will find the topics of interest.
