Description: Employees engage in all kinds of off-duty conduct that can cause employers to wonder, “Can we fire that employee for doing that?” Employers must be mindful of the legality of imposing consequences upon employees for their conduct outside the workplace. This fast-paced class will address trending issues in this area, including terminations based on the employee’s: Social media posts Marijuana use Political activity Outside employment Romantic relationships/socializing with co-workers Tobacco use Support of LGBTQ+ rights, pro-choice or pro-life organizations, gun ownership, and other social causes and issues Alcohol use Arrests (pending disposition).
