ON DEMAND: Mediation Your Clients Can Afford – Learn About Reduced Fee Mediation Available Through D.C. Refers

Date(s):
Description:
Credit: 0 Credit Hours

Run Time: 81 Minutes

**This is a previously recorded program, originally recorded on November 17, 2020.

Mediation can be an affordable tool that allows clients to solve legal problems more quickly and at a lower cost than litigation. However, experienced and qualified mediators are needed to make this tool available to clients of modest means. The program is being timed to coincide with the launch of the D.C. Refers reduced fee mediator directory, a resource designed to address this access to justice need. D.C. Refers was formed to increase access to justice in the District of Columbia by offering an online directory of qualified attorneys and now mediators who agree to provide reduced fee legal services to persons of modest means (earning 200-400% of the poverty level) www.dcrefers.org.

Speakers will discuss how affordable mediation can supplement the alternative dispute resolution resources available through the D.C. and federal courts and will provide the perspective of experienced mediators who are on the D.C. Refers mediator panel on the need for affordable mediation in family law and general civil matters and how it works.
